I purchased this trim kit at the same time I purchased the GE PEM31SFSS Profile Stainless Steel Microwave (also reviewed). Though Amazon initially told me it would arrive 1 week after the microwave they somehow expedited and so they arrived together. NICE! It was well packaged and arrived undamaged. The trim kit fits the microwave well. There is a space between the microwave and the trimkit walls. I found this helpful as it gave just a bit of leeway in installation. And the space is necessary to allow for ventilation. I do not find the space disturbing though imagine some may complain. It is easy to install with a bit of assembly and just a few screws. The tricky bit is lining everything up just so in the cabinet. This is where that leeway came in handy. In my case I was replacing a 16-year-old GE Profile microwave and trim kit. Shockingly the opening needed for the new microwave + trim kit was the same exact size. I did not have to do any cutting. The entire job took me 15 minutes.I’d like to confirm and clarify some of the information in other reviews as it may make a big difference for you.The trim kit moves the microwave forward about an inch (see pictures). Some people have been disturbed by this. However I think it wonderful. This gives you 1 more inch of clearance on the back. Had I truly understood this I would have been able to get the next model larger. And secondly the microwave is now nearly flush to the cabinet doors on each side. Had the trim kit kept it flush to the cabinet surface it would have ‘looked’ recessed.Yes, the trim kit is plastic. But does it really matter? Once it is installed you are not going to notice. The plastic is sturdy and the stainless steel coating seems robust enough to survive the occasional wipe with a damp cloth. I think some people are more upset about the price, feeling kit should be metal to justify the price. But that is not why the price is high. The price is high because … you really don’t have another choice.Product worked. but the screws were not the right quality-difficult to drive them into hard wood, even after starting the hole with a drill. The item is a specialty size. As such, I expected it to cost more than usual. But the price was actually grossly overpriced for what it is.It looks great and a perfect it. I left off one star because it arrived without the screws, which the instructions say should have been included. I had to forage around my house for screws to install it.This microwave works really well. Our family is happy with itThe previous trim kit I had on the previous GE spacemaker microwave was actually made entirely of stainless steel. This trim kit piece that surrounds the microwave is actually plastic with a stainless steel looking finish. Not worth the price, except that it was necessary to build the microwave into the cabinet.Looks great...easy to install...I recommend this accessory for any kitchen.Made of plastic. Not very solid. Our microwave is in a cabinet that rests on the counter which makes it IMPOSSIBLE to screw the bottom of this in. The old vented model was much more solid.I have installed this trim kit and am still not sure that it is the best fit for the this microwave. I was assured by Buy and Save and Home Depot that this is the correct trim kit for the microwave I purchased, but there is about a 1/2 " gap between the microwave and the trim frame. Additionally, the frame comes out about 1 inch from the front of the cabinet.
