I bought this convection microwave to replace my still-working 1993 Sharp convection microwave. I mostly wanted an updated look, the Sharp being 22 years old by this time (2015).I was attracted to this Cuisinart because I have a few of their kitchen appliances (coffee maker, toaster, food processor) and all those things have held up well, so prior use and good experiences were selling points on getting the convection/microwave oven.Over the past years I read a lot of information about the various combo appliances available. After all my research I concluded the Cuisinart was a good choice. (Note: most quality brand name convection microwaves will set you back $350 to $500, not including shipping. That's because these are complex devices and all these ovens have expensive stainless steel interiors or a special metal that will not arc when in microwave mode. I priced Panasonic, Sharp, Samsung, and others, I resigned myself to paying $400 if I wanted to replace my Sharp.)Price: What really sold me on THIS deal was that Beach Camera unit for $140, and FREE SHIPPING! Like other deals we sometimes get, that was a deal no one could compete with. Plus Beach had good reviews on custo service, so I was ALL IN as the saying goes. (And apparently so were other people because this deal sold out quick.)The oven arrived within a week after I ordered it, as expected. (I did not order expedited delivery because like I said, I already have a new looking and functional Sharp convection oven microwave. Since I mostly wanted a décor change there was no rush. Note, it was not lost on me that a 22 year old device could go kaput any day now, so replacing it now was a good idea.)Shipping: There were no signs of external damage to the shipping box, so I signed for it. But then I had to lug it up three flights of stairs because I live on the top floor of my building. (Prior to ordering I checked the weight for the oven (41 lbs), added 10 lbs for shipping materials, and determined I could lift the box by myself. Interesting, I had to research about 10 minutes to find out the weight. What a drag.)The oven comes well packed. There were two boxes used, the outer shipping box, the inner product box. That's a nice touch IMO. The oven itself had plenty of protective foam and wrapping so the stainless steel does not get marred. I unpacked it and easily placed it on my kitchen counter.Note: Smaller ladies, the aged, or disabled are going to want help lifting it and placing it on a counter. If you are in OK shape this oven is not so heavy (41 lbs) and awkward sized that it can't be moved around by one person.(Tip: Unpack it on the floor, in the kitchen. Place the oven next to the counter where it will sit. Lift it and have the drawers against the back of the oven so that if things get out of control you can use your body weight to press the oven against the drawers, this so the oven does not go crashing on to the floor. Tip: drape a towel over the drawers so you don't scrape things up.) Tip: Also use a chair next to the counter so you can lift the oven to the counter in two stages, first the chair, then on to the counter.WARNING: NO NOT PLACE THIS OVEN NEXT TO THE FRIDGE OR CABINETS TO WHERE THE VENT IS BLOCKED. That might start a fire or cause damage.WARNING: DO NOT PLACE SPRAY CANS OR OTHER COMBUSTIBLE ITEMS ON TOP OF OR AROUND THIS OVEN. They might explode! Do not place anything on the oven top. It gets quite hot and could, for example, melt what you place on top.SAFEGUARD THE OWNER'S MANUAL. (Tip: it is also available for download online at Cuisinart.) You need the manual over the next year to figure out all the little features and functions. For example, you can press and hold down the Start button and after four seconds that will lock the keys. This is a "child safety lock" so kids can't fool with the microwave "Hey, lets nuke a bottle of Coke and see what happens." That is a handy feature, other than for safety. I lock the keys when I want to scrub the microwave. I can wipe the keypad surface without being concerned about turning on the microwave.)Other cool things, you can hold down the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 and the microwave will automatically operate that many minutes, up to six minutes. No way you would know that unless you read the manual. You also need the manual to figure out how to work basic functions. I'm sure it is designed to be intuitive, but for 22 years I have been doing it Sharp's way, now I have to learn a different way to do things. For example, with the Sharp when using the oven you program in "convection" then the heat setting, then how long you intend to cook the food. You then press "start," the oven preheats, there's a beep when it is to temp, insert food, press start again, the baking begins. With the Cuisinart you select convection, then the oven temp, then start. When it is to temp there's a beep, you insert the food, THEN ENTER COOKING TIME, and press start. The Cuisinart way makes more sense because that prevents one using the oven if one gets called away and/or changed one's mind about cooking.Bonus Tip: For the first year or so keep the manual in a cabinet near the oven so you can refer to it when needed. I have a spot in a cabinet where I keep manuals for all kitchen appliances. That way I don't have to look for the manual at the time I am using it. All my manuals are in that one spot.Use and Experience: I have used the microwave daily, perhaps three times every day. Foods are cooked evenly and everything is hot. There's no cold spots. In regards to power heating a 12 oz cup of coffee from the fridge takes about one minute. Comes out just right. Popcorn: most all bags are fully popped after 2 min 15 seconds. On my old microwave the same bags need 2 m 30 s to fully pop. As they say on the popcorn box, microwave times will vary.A word about décor. This is an all stainless appliance. The glass door is the typical black tint, so you have protection but can still see inside. Stainless goes well with just about any color appliances and looks up-to-date.In regards to a convection/microwave combo, once you use a counter top convection oven you will never go back to using your full-sized oven because there's no more bending over. The only time you need the bigger oven is when cooking a huge turkey or roast. But for the medium to small items (e.g., a 12 lb roast or large chicken) this works fine.Bonus Tip: get round cooking sheets, a pizza pan and other pans that will fit into the oven AND ROTATE without hitting the sides of the oven wall. For example, my pizza pan that has holes in it, so heat can penetrate into the dough, is 12.5" diameter. It fits just right into the oven and rotates without obstruction. Get round pans for baking. On the convection oven I have baked ready-made cinnamon rolls, on the pizza pan. There's five rolls to the pack. I was pleased to see that each roll was EVENLY browned, and cooked throughout evenly too.Note: AFAIK the convection oven myth is false, a convection oven does NOT speed up baking or cooking times. On the cinnamon rolls for example the package says bake for 18 minutes. I baked the rolls at 350 degrees for 18 min., this resulted in perfect rolls.I believe there's instructions on using a combo microwave convection oven to speed up cooking, but still get the brown shade that only a conventional oven can provide. I have not bothered with that feature, too much work for me, all those settings. I had no patience for that.Bottom line: I am very pleased with this appliance. IMO once you use this oven you will rarely use your stove's oven. This appliance is simply too convenient. No bending over, cooking is more precise, and the food gets cooked evenly throughout.Bonus Comment: This appliance is really convenient for those people who live in a small apartment or where space is at a premium. You not only get to combine two appliances into one, but you also can eliminate the oven.Update: About a week after I bought the oven I saw that it was offered at $10 less than what I paid ($149, down to $139). I contacted Beach and they immediately gave me a $10 refund for the price difference. Isn't that cool.I like that it is stainless steal so it won't rust out like my old Hamilton Beach one did. It is so easy to clean. Just wipe down with a damp paper towel. It cooks great, clock is right on the button. Came packed very well and with great care. Also does not show fingerprints SS inside and out side. Great price and a fantastic 3 YEAR WARRANTY. This is a great choice if you need a new microwave. Cuisinart CMW-100 IS THE BEST NO NEED TO TRY THE REST.Now that I've had my Cuisinart Convection/Microwave/Grill oven for a little while, and used it, I wanted to share my experiences.First I have not used the microwave by itself at all. I have no real need to since I have 2 Tappan microwaves and there is no company that beats Tappan for quality. This mini oven was bought to use so that I wouldn't have to open the full-sized 40" Tappan oven from the 1950's. Yes, it's very old but still working fine. Ovens from that time period did not save energy and I'm sure that one uses a lot.So, the new Cuisinart is being used for anything that will fit inside it. And it's great for most everything from roasts (with the convection roast feature) to baking muffins (using the grill rack for double level / double the amount cooking) to pizza on the express setting. It's great also for quick warm-ups or cooking of small single portion items.I'm thinking that unless I'm cooking a 25 lb. turkey, like I did at both Thanksgiving and Christmas, I won't need the full-sized oven at all.People who have reviewed this oven have said it was slow to pre-heat, and maybe they are comparing it to a more modern oven, but compared to my anitque Tappan it is faster. There are two major negatives that stand out for me:1. After pre-heating, no matter how fast I try to open the door and put the item or items in to continue to cook, the oven drops temperature immediately and by leaps and bounds. I noticed my 425-degree pre-heated oven was down to 325 degrees by the time the door was shut and timer set to convection cooking. This followed through with other temperatures, usually dropping 100 degrees each time. The only time I managed to have it drop only 75 degrees was once when I had only one tiny item to insert and tried for a land-speed record. I am positive my big oven does not drop temperature that fast, although, I have no way of accurately measuring that due to its age and condition.2. The brochures says the oven is easy to clean and easy to keep clean. It touts that the stainless interior is a breeze to clean and does not absorb odors. Ha! Yes, normally stainless steel is easy to clean as my dogs' food and water bowls clean beautifully in the dishwaster. But trying to clean inside the little oven, pretty dark since the light is no halogen, is not easy or a breeze. All the splattered grease, fat, and meat particles are everywhere and do not come off with soap and water or baking soda and water or vinegar and water or any other gentle cleaner recommended. The small holes at the back of the oven fill with food and it cannot be removed. The top area above the heating element is extremely hard to clean. And odors stay in the oven and do not come out. Since thorough cleaning is impossible, all the food smells stay until something more smelly is cooked to take the place of prior item's smell. All in all, I'm still happy with it since it beats the big ancient oven for energy cost and time/convenience. And I'm not a clean freak so I can live with a less than squeaky clean interior.Had this microwave for 3 years and 6 months. The door release broke today. Of course the protection plan was only good for three years. I've had other microwaves with the push button door release and never had this problem. Then, what should one expect when it is made of plastic. I do not recommend this product. The Cuisinart CMW-200 is one of the few combination microwave convection ovens still on the market. It's a very versatile unit that fits in a small space. You get three appliances in one.The price is not that bad until you realize it's a throw away unit for those purchased in Canada. The Cuisinart CMW-200 is a USA MODEL ONLY. It can not be repaired or serviced in Canada. At least, not by Cuisinart Canada. If you push the door release button too hard, the lever system will break and you will be unable to open the door. You do need to push very firmly for the spring activated door lock to release. I got a year and a half use before I couldn't open the door. The door release mechanism design is so silly, it looks like an intentional design flaw to bring you back for service. If you have a couple heavy handed teenagers around your house the Cuisinart CMW-200 is not for you.We like the Cuisinart Microwave. With the stainless steel interior it heats up very quickly, and easy to clean. We used it as a stand by microwave while our other one was coming. We used it mostly in the kitchen to heat up pancakes, casseroles, and other types of food. Can be expensive to purchase but worth it if you have limited space.I purchased this for our community centre at a facility for seniors. It works great and is a big hit with all our seniors and staff members. It does everything we need it to - and then some.Great value for moneyworks well, good programs but wished the rings announcing the end would stop on opening the door.
